Eastern & Oriental Hotel @ Penang

The Eastern & Oriental Hotel (popularly known as the E. & O.) is a colonial-style hotel in Penang that was established in 1885 by the Armenian Sarkies Brothers. The sea-fronting hotel is known for its luxurious accommodation and restaurants. The address is at 10 Lebuh Farquhar.

The Eastern Hotel was founded by the brothers in 1884. Within one year, the hotel had prospered and gained so much popularity that the brothers established another hotel, the Oriental Hotel in 1885, leading to the merging of both hotels to form the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in 1885. The success of the hotel led the brothers to establish a sister hotel, the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, 2 years later.

After World War II, the hotel went through a period of decline and in 1996, it was closed down. After major restoration works to restore the hotel back to its former grandeur under its new owner, The E & O Group, the hotel was reopened to the public in 2001.

This is probably one of the best hotels that I've stayed in Malaysia. I tend to stay in more luxury hotels when I travel in Malaysia but cheaper hotels in oversea. I think it's due to other expenses in overseas that made me think twice before I book a room. This is truly a five star hotel with five star service, room and facilities. Rooms here are spacious and comfortable. I have no other words to describe this place besides "AWESOME". You have to be here to experience it. The buffet spread here is very good and not too pricey. The room rates here are from MYR880 to MYR3,120.  FYI, this is a deluxe suite; sea view suite separate living room, bedroom and bathroom.

Ambiance = 10/10
